A Top Family Holiday Destination
Tanzania is fast becoming a destination of choice for families wanting their children to experience the enchantment of a meaningful vacation. On a family safari holiday, days are spent immersed in the great outdoors, witnessing the bush environment first-hand and at its absolute authentic best. Children can experience family or children’s game drives, nature walks, and other especially tailored excursions, to see and learn about both local flora and fauna first-hand. A good number of game lodges offer personalized packages especially for children, designed to entertain, educate, and kindle their young interest in ecology, and also even cater to their less sophisticated little foodie palates. There is absolutely no need for electronic devices here, it’s hands-on, it’s enlightening, it’s healthy stimulation…for adults and youngsters alike.
Imagine the excitement of animal-spotting as a family, bumping along bush roads filled with expectation of your next possible sighting, learning new fascinating facts together with your children, sitting around the camp fire at night pouring over the events and highlights of the day before heading off to your sumptuous suite for a well-earned bubble-bath and a good night.
An African safari holiday offers so many fun and meaningful opportunities for wholesome family bonding. Both adults and children will return relaxed and enriched, cherishing shared memories forever.

Your personal camp crew will be waiting to welcome you with sundowner cocktails and pre-dinner bitings which you will enjoy beside the camp fire. Accommodation will be provided in one of our new family tents.
Intimate Camps are staffed by private chefs, private butlers and private tent attendants all of whom are on call to cater to your every need. Because our camps are for your own private use only, we are able to tailor the services we provide to your specific requirements.
Today you will enjoy a full day’s game drive in the park, breaking only for a hot lunch which will be prepared and served to you by your camp crew. Tarangire is spectacular in its concentration of wildlife. Many of the migratory species live close by the permanent waters of Tarangire River, from which the Park derives its name. Large herds of wildebeest, zebras, elephants, eland and oryx gather in this park for the year long grazing which it affords them.
Overnight in your ‘Intimate Places’ camp on an all-inclusive basis. (Cocktails and bitings beside the camp fire, Dinner, Breakfast, Lunch, Beverages, Laundry).
This morning bid farewell to your camp crew and depart to Manyara Airstrip for your flight into the Serengeti National Park. For the morning hours, these include a long list of children’s activities for the younger members of the party (please see list of children’s activities offered at the camp) and an exciting game walk accompanied by a Maasai warrior for the adults. During this walk you will be taught to track and identify the different species of fauna. You will also spoor track the big five with the help of an armed ranger and are bound to cross paths with some African plains game. Look out for the 200 or so species of birds which also inhabit the area.
In the afternoon you will visit the very authentic Maasai village of Ololosokwan which is the Maasai name for ‘buffalo.’ The village was formed in 1960 by the Maasai tribesmen and women who were removed from the nearby Serengeti plains at the time of the creation of the Serengeti National Park. Because of the villages remote location, you will be able to enjoy a unique insight into the Maasai way of life and bask in their unique culture.
In the evening you will enjoy sundowner cocktails perched on a hilltop overlooking the Serengeti National Park with a magnificent African sunset before you followed by a Boma dinner where traditional Swahili food will be cooked for you on an open fire. After dinner, enjoy a night game drive in the camps open game viewing vehicle during which you will also be able to spot the nocturnal animals which inhabit the area surrounding the camp.
After breakfast, you will drive into the Serengeti National Park for a full day’s game drive. During the months of April and May each year, this will include a drive to the Western part of the park in order to view the wildebeest migration. During the months of June till October each year, this will include a drive up to the Mara River where you should catch one or more spectacular river crossings.
In November, the wildebeest migration is normally to be found on the plains in front of the camp including in the concession area all around the camp. On your drive through the Serengeti, look out for elephant, lion, leopard, cheetah, wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, giraffe, gazelles, antelopes and the many other animals found on the vast open plains and acacia woodland.
After dinner, you will again be given an opportunity to participate in another exhilarating night game drive (subject to an additional charge).

All items sold at Shanga are made by the physically disabled who are proud to have you shown around their workshop adjacent to the shop. In the evening you will be transferred to the airport for your flight home.
